Why buy a property in Finestrat?

Finestrat has two faces. The old village hangs on the flank of the Puig Campana, the peak of more than 1,400 metres that closes the horizon behind Benidorm, with narrow streets, a church built against the rock and restaurants on the square. Seven kilometres below, Cala de Finestrat is a sheltered sandy cove with a promenade, a short walk from Benidorm's Poniente beach and its long seafront. In between, the hills of Sierra Cortina and the surrounding slopes are where the new homes go up: gated developments with pools and gardens, sea views from many terraces, golf courses next door and La Marina shopping centre at the foot of the hill. The formula suits buyers who want Benidorm's services, its tram to Alicante and its year-round life without living inside it, and those who want the mountains and the sea in the same view. Finestrat real estate is newer and more expensive than around Torrevieja, but for a comparable villa it generally stays below Altea or Moraira.

Where to buy in Finestrat?

Fifty homes are listed. Villas are the largest group, in number as in value: twenty detached houses from 107 to 356 m², three to five bedrooms, all but one with a private pool, from 555,000 euros to 1.4 million, most of them between 600,000 and 900,000 euros. Seventeen apartments run from about 290,000 euros for a one-bedroom to 583,000 euros for a three-bedroom, all in complexes with communal pools, and eight penthouses with roof terraces go from 403,000 to 987,000 euros. Four houses on their own plot, listed as chalets, from 425,000 to 895,000 euros, and one bungalow complete the selection. Almost everything sits between one and five kilometres from the beach, on the hillside rather than the seafront: this is a market of views, gardens and quiet streets, not of front-line prices.

The developments are spread over the slopes between the village and the coast. Sierra Cortina, above La Marina, is the best known, a residential hillside with golf and hotels at its feet and Benidorm's skyline below. The areas closer to the village keep more of a countryside feel, with the Puig Campana directly overhead, while those nearest Cala de Finestrat and the Benidorm boundary put the beach and the tram within a few minutes' drive. How to get to Finestrat?

Finestrat sits on the AP-7 and the N-332, ten minutes from Benidorm and Villajoyosa, twenty from Altea, and about 40 minutes from Alicante airport. The tram from Benidorm reaches Alicante in a little over an hour, the Marina Baixa hospital in Villajoyosa is ten minutes away, and Valencia is an hour and a half by motorway.
